Fern
Gavelek got hooked on journalism in high school. She worked at newspapers in
her native Indiana before moving to Hawaii in 1988.
Ever since, she has been
writing about the people, places and events that make the Aloha State so
special.
A resident of Kona on
the Big Island, Fern
works from home as a freelance journalist, photographer and public relations
professional. Her stories have appeared
in national and Hawaii publications,
most recently in Agriculture Hawaii, HILuxury, Keiki Talk, Ke Ola, Leo, This
Week, Travel Age West
and Where Guestbook. In 2006, Fern was named the SBA
Journalist of the Year for the Big Isle.
Active in the Kona community, Fern
is
co-editor of the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerces Source magazine, is
volunteer publicist for Hulihee Palace and recently wrote the
book North Konas
Catholic Heritageremembered as a member of St. Michaels Heritage
Committee.
